Getting Started

First login, desktop essentials, where to find help.

This is the English desktop Handbook, published online from the same generated catalog. References to buttons, panels and menus describe the installed desktop. Package updates can be newer than the downloadable ISO. Check installation & validation scope.

EITR combines an Arch Linux system, Hyprland windows, the Quickshell desktop bar and Walker menus. SUPER means the Windows/Command-logo key on your keyboard.

The buttons above this text set up the essentials: each one closes the handbook and opens its setting. This chapter opens by itself at the first login; turn on Show this welcome at the next login to see it again, or reopen it any time from Learn > Welcome.

Offer to report problems when something breaks is on by default and shares the Crash Notifications setting. When one of your programs crashes, a notification offers help or a report for you to review and send; see Troubleshooting.

Your first few minutes

  1. Press SUPER + F for the main menu. Start typing to search actions across submenus and installed apps. Enter opens a result; Escape closes the menu.
  2. Press SUPER + Space for Apps, or SUPER + Enter for a terminal.
  3. Open SUPER + , for the Control Center. Its Settings tab contains keyboard and display/night-light controls; Style contains appearance choices.
  4. Connect from the WiFi or Bluetooth icon. Right-side bar icons may be hidden: click the Show Icons arrow to reveal them.
  5. Choose a theme from Style > Theme, then a wallpaper from Style > Wallpaper.

Fresh EITR defaults are Afterglow and the Clockwork Tape lockscreen. Existing desktops keep their saved choices.

Learn at your own pace

Open Learn > EITR Handbook or press SUPER + F1. Press the same shortcut again, Escape, or the close button to dismiss this overlay; clicking beside it keeps it open. It does not tile beside your apps. Search matches chapter titles and text; Up/Down pick a match and Enter opens it. Ctrl + F focuses search. Page Up/Page Down scroll the chapter, Ctrl + Home/End jump to its start or end, and Alt + Left/Right moves between chapters. Previous and Next do the same with the mouse.

The handbook does not run commands. Code blocks are examples for you to inspect and copy deliberately. External reference links open only when clicked.

Continue with Shortcuts, Desktop Bar, or the System Menu.
